January 4, 2006
Doctors Care is pleased to announce that Salvatore C. Assorgi, DO, has joined the medical staff in their Beaufort, South Carolina location.
Assorgi, a native of Brooklyn, New York, received his undergraduate degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania and his Doctor of Osteopathic medicine degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Kirksville, Missouri. Prior to his position with Doctors Care in Beaufort, Assorgi was an urgent care physician with Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. He has more than 38 years clinical experience.
Dr. Assorgi is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the American College of Osteopathic Family Practice, and the South Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association. He is the current president in District 4 of the Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association.
“I treat each patient for their total well-being, rather than isolating their symptoms or illness. That’s why I became a physician in osteopathic medicine,” said Dr. Assorgi. “I’m happy to be with Doctors Care because they emphasize preventive care and they have a strong family care focus. I look forward to helping patients in the Beaufort area with not only the urgent care they need, but also with their regular check-ups and preventive medicine that can improve their quality of life.”

Doctors of osteopathic medicine are physicians who are fully trained and licensed to prescribe medication and to perform surgery. DOs and allopathic physicians (MDs) are the only two types of complete physicians. Osteopathic medicine embraces a holistic philosophy, considering the body as a unit of interrelated systems that work together to ensure good health. Osteopathic physicians are trained to use osteopathic manipulative medicine as an additional tool in diagnosing and treating patients.
