Sports Physicals
Many people think of seeing a doctor only when they're sick. But from pee wee to the pros, a sports physical is the best way to make sure you're ready to play at your best.
If you play on a team - football, basketball, soccer or cheerleading – you'll need a physical. Same if you're a gymnast or swimmer.
Schedule the appointment for six weeks before your season starts. That will give you plenty of time to follow through on any training the doctor recommends.
During physicals doctors check the basics - height, weight, blood pressure and vision. They'll ask for a medical history – details such as any broken bones or conditions such as asthma or diabetes. They'll want to know your family's history as well. They'll ask questions that might seem strange - “Do you want to weigh more or less than you do now?”
Your answers can help the doctor help you come up with a plan for making sure you're ready. Maybe you need to rehabilitate an old injury or maybe you could benefit from a better conditioning program. During your physical, the doctor can help you figure out how to reach your goals.
Remember that the goal of a sports physical is not to keep you from playing, so don't be nervous. Look at your annual physical as an opportunity to learn more about yourself. The goal is to make sure that you're at your best, not only for the coming season but for the rest of you life.
Appointments are not necessary, walk-ins are welcome at any Doctors Care center closest to you. Remember you can complete our simple patient registration form and bring it with you. This will allow our patient service representative to process your information more rapidly and potentially get you seen more quickly.
